Back in 1988, there were only a handful of homes in Seaside and the closest furnishing stores were in Panama City or Ft. Walton Beach. For Robert and Daryl Davis, cofounders of Seaside, a general store for the town was a perfect fit. Honoring Robert’s great grandfather, Alabama department store legend, Louis Pizitz, the first town center shop was opened in the new Dreamland Heights Building.

The first concept of the store was one-stop-shopping for the new Seaside home owners. The merchandise ranged from bathtub fixtures to Egyptian cotton sheets to garden trugs to Italian Pottery. L. Pizitz even offered the first Seaside brand merchandise, including the now famous “New town, Old Ways” t-shirt.

As the town of Seaside developed, the homeowners became drawn to more of the finer things that the store had to offer over the hardware and garden tools. Thus Pizitz started phasing out the nuts and bolts and concentrated more on the aesthetics of furnishing the home.

Since 1988, Pizitz Home & Cottage has furnished numerous houses, not only in Seaside, but in the surrounding communities of Watercolor, Rosemary Beach and Alys Beach. The store’s design projects have been featured in most major shelter magazines, including House Beautiful, Coastal Living, Southern Accents, and Cottage Living, to name a few. Today the store offers a beautiful selection of slip covered sofas and chairs, bleached dining and occasional tables, striking lamps, luxurious bedding and a varied assortment of coffee table books, candles, platters, and original artwork.

Located in Central Square, Pizitz Home & Cottage offers design consultation for complete home furnishings. For further information please contact us at [email protected] or call one of our customer service representatives at 866-795-5675.
